Mumbai Musings

Mumbai

I spent my day in Mumbai gallivanting around the Hanging Gardens, Marine Drive, Gateway of India, Haji Ali, and Bandra. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan city, I felt a tingling feeling that was associated with having no idea what the future holds. Every place I visited, I muddled through my thoughts and wondered if that is where I was supposed to be… at that very moment, on that day, at that point in my life. There is so much I don’t know, and I can’t help but create multiple possible scenarios of what’s to come, or rather what I expect.

My feet eventually found their way to Bandra Fort during sunset hour. I am asked by a fellow traveller, “What do you feel looking at the sunset?”
I answered, “The sun, something so big, can actually seem so small. Its apparent size tricks me into believing that I can grab hold of it. But I can’t.”

I can’t grasp the sun, nor can I do the same with the future.

I returned to my hotel and scan through the photos on my Nikon Coolpix, while lying on the bed that smells of fresh sheets. The tranquil ambiance of the room fostered a completely different perspective of the shots I took during the rowdy day. At the end of it all, I was simply captivated by the moments I captured.

It’s oddly comforting for me to know that I don’t have to fear the unknown. Instead, the unknown can be a driving force for me to explore and discover. I can live life in the ‘in-between’, the uncomfortable, and the messy.

There’s a sort of maturity in understanding that circumstances are always going to change. And every day I have the chance to remake myself. To find contentment in little meaningful moments, that will eventually lead me to the day when everything falls into place.
